chicago.

planning a trip to chicago to visit the renegade craft fair!

i'm so stoked. i'd like to one day have a booth there, but until then visiting will be nice.

crafty friends.

a few days ago i was googling myself (yeah thats right) and i came across a blogger/designer who blogged about my etsy shop!
she was really sweet and supportive. plus her blog lah mode is absolutely adorable.
check it out here.

my amazingly crafty friend pattie wilkinson, a.k.a pattiewack also wrote a super sweet blog about me.
she is such a dear person to me. we both worked at simplicity creative group and i learned so much from her in the small time we spent together. she is now back in california and i hope to visit her soon!
check out her blog here.

don't you just love supportive people? its people like that who make creating and sharing so worth it...

the felt bird.

i have been a fan and a follower of stelabird for a couple of years.
the girl that runs it has a really cute blog and an even cuter etsy shop where she sells her adorable owl plushies.

anyhoo, she and her bf are about to open up a real life shop called the felt bird!
i just sent off some of my ipod cozies and yo-yo brooches to be sold there.

the shop is in enid oklahoma and you can follow the progress on the felt bird blog.

so, next time you're in oklahoma stop by the felt bird and support local crafters!

crazy contest.

i blogged back in june about a quilting contest i entered in for the alliance for american quilts.

there were two categories, the under 30 and the over 30.

there were a total of 84 entries and only 3 were under 30!
so that means i have a pretty good chance of taking home a prize.

the 1st place prize is $750-$1000 worth of fabric!!!

they announce the winners on tuesday...so wish me luck!

a how to for you.

my buddy hadley was telling me about this cute mason jar soap dispenser she saw on etsy.

so i thought i'd give it try.

level of difficulty: super easy.

1. just take a mason jar and drive a nail through the center of the top.

2. remove the pump from a store bought soap dispenser (below).

3. widen the hole you made so that the pump fits snug inside.

4. put some super glue on the edge of the bottom of the pumps base, so that it adheres to the jar top. let dry.

5. now fill with soap. the more colorful the better.

purty ain't it!?

august is sexy.

download the newest lisa rupp calendar here.
this one is a cutie.

and august is american artist appreciation month.
so go hug an artist and say thanks for making this world easier to look at.

baby!

my sister katie and her husband shaun (below) dropped the news on sunday that they are having a baby!!

i'm so very excited. i love being an aunt to braxton and having another niece/nephew will be even more fun!

the baby is due in march, so that only gives me 7 months to whip up some crafty cozy little goodies for him/her.

the site indie fixx is a one-stop shop for spiffy designs and most things crafty.

they have this free art project called 'feed your soul'...where you can download and print off some pretty cute stuff.

here are a few of my favorites.

atomic starburst.

the crafty peoples over at threadbanger just uploaded this super cute tutorial on how to make a 50's style starburst mirror...

i created this one a few months ago...
it's not as festive as the threadbanger one, but it works.

i used a similar method, by starting off with the cardboard circle...but instead of using dowels or skewers, i used pages from a magazine.

just tear out a colorful page from a magazine, start rolling it like sushi (really skinny sushi) and lay down glue from your glue stick every couple of inches as you roll.

the process is really easy and adds a lot to your lame walls.

went to melrose on 8th last night for hadley's birthday...
...of all people to be there, kirsten dunst was.

drinking cheap beer in a room full of smoke.
super random.

i must say, i was a little starstruck.
probably because i just watched 'marie antionette' like a week ago.

check it!

the olden days.

the photograph at the top of my blog is my favorite one of my grandmother.
perhaps my favorite photo of all time.
she is the lady in the center, between the pins.
her name was violet.

she is the one who taught me to crochet and instilled in me a lot of my creative passion.
i love her for that, and i wish she was still around to see how much i've grown, creatively and emotionally.

a few weeks ago i went through a box of old family pictures in my parents garage.

i found some really amazing photos and i'd like to share some of my discoveries.

23.

today was my 23rd birthday.
it was quite simple and very nice.

it started off by painting pottery with hadley and sara.
sara and her power-dragon.
i heart cupcakes.
hads and her tasty olive plate.

...after pottery, dinner with the family and playing with my silly nephew braxton...
...he got me flowers!

a good start to 23. indeed.

x's and o's to you.

my first sale.

i made my first etsy sale tonight!

this little guy is now on his way to a new home in california, to shield an ipod from this crazy world and all that can harm it. except fire.
i am super excited!

it took me a while to get up the initiative to start my shop.
now that i've sold my first item, i feel so proud.
like i just sent my first-born child to college or something : )

good night.
